BookmarQ ("the App", "we", "us") is a book-review platform. This policy explains what information the App collects, how it is used, and your choices. By using BookmarQ you agree to this policy.

1. Information we collect
Account information (required to sign in):
- Email address
- Display name
- Authentication is handled by Google Firebase Authentication. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email and profile photo from Google.
Content and activity you create:
- Reviews you write (ratings and justifications across the review criteria)
- Likes / dislikes on reviews
- Books you add (title, author, buying link)
- Challenges you file (for authors)
- Gamification activity points and tier
Automatically collected:
- Crash and diagnostic data via Firebase Crashlytics (device model, OS version, and technical details of any crash) to help us fix problems.
- Basic technical data required for the app to function (e.g. network requests to load book covers).
We do not collect precise location, contacts, SMS, or payment information.
2. How we use information
- To create and manage your account and role (Reader, Reviewer, Author, Moderator).
- To display reviews, scores, leaderboards, and your profile.
- To operate moderation (publishing/rejecting reviews) and the challenge process.
- To calculate and display gamification points and tiers.
- To diagnose crashes and improve stability and performance.
3. How information is shared
- Published reviews, your display name, book data, and leaderboard standings are public to other users of the App by design.
- Service providers: we use Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Crashlytics) to store data and operate the App, governed by Google's privacy terms.
- Third-party links: tapping a book's "Buy" link opens an external website with its own privacy policy; we are not responsible for it.
- We do not sell your personal information.
4. Data retention
We retain your account and content while your account is active. Rejected or deleted reviews may be retained for moderation integrity. You can request deletion of your account and personal data (see section 6 and our Delete Account page).
5. Security
Data is stored in Google Firebase and protected by role-based security rules. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
6. Your rights & choices
- Access / correction: view and edit your profile in the App.
- Deletion: request account and data deletion via our Delete Account page or by contacting us.
- Depending on your region (e.g. GDPR/EEA, India's DPDP Act), you may have additional rights to access, correct, or erase your data.
7. Children's privacy
BookmarQ is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect data from children.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy; material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date.
